San Diego Chargers Jerseys In 2017, offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt would like to see Rivers perform as he did in the first seven games last season. Whisenhunt pointed to injuries at receiver, tight end and offensive line as reasons for some of Rivers’ inconsistent play during the second half of the season.
No. 1 receiver Keenan Allen was lost after suffering an ACL knee injury in the season opener against the Kansas City. All-purpose back Danny Woodhead went down for the season with an ACL injury a week later against Jacksonville.
But Whisenhunt also said Rivers and the rest of the offense have to do a better job of holding onto the football. Rivers finished with a career-high 21 interceptions in 2016, and the Chargers led the league with 35 turnovers.
“He was missing Cheap nfl Jerseys some of his weapons,” Whishenhunt said. “And when that happens and you want to win so bad that you have a tendency to press.”
Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said one of his goals this offseason is create balance on offense and surround Rivers with enough talent so that he doesn’t feel like he has to force the issue. One of the attractions to the Chargers for Lynn was that the team already had a franchise quarterback in Rivers.
“Right now he’s throwing it as well as he’s thrown it his whole career in my opinion,” Lynn said. “That ball comes out so quick. He’s a coach on the field. I haven’t looked at all his throws because we’re still going through everybody.
“But I think sometimes you when you try to do too much, you create more turnovers. And I’m just going to make sure he doesn’t have to go out and win every game for us. We’re going to win as a football team — put a good offense, defense and special teams on the field.
“We’re going to be balanced. We’ve got to be able to run the football and finish games off in the fourth quarter by running the football.”
Rivers told reporters last week that he’s still getting used to the idea of the Los Angeles Chargers. He recently made a trip to L.A. to see a Clippers game with oldest son Gunnar, stopping by the StubHub Center to get a closer look at the Chargers’ new home for the upcoming season.
“My time here and my
Cheap jersey wholesale love for San Diego will always be great, and I’ll be forever thankful for my time here,” Rivers said. “But at the same time, I hope that people do understand here that I do have to move forward, and get excited about where we’re headed. And I am getting excited, and I’m going to embrace the challenge that will be up there.
“Once you get into the football part of it, it becomes that. I’m tired of losing. Obviously it’s been tough the last few years. So I’m excited about that part of it, getting back around with my teammates and a new coaching staff, and trying to go win football games.”
