New York Giants Jerseys The Eagles have a need at wide receiver and not a lot of cap space to address it with.
A dilemma that could lead them to take a gamble on a player from a division rival.
There is a strong possibility that the Giants will release wide receiver Victor Cruz this offseason, as he holds a cap hit of $9.4 million next season, but only $1.9 million in dead cap space if he was released.
Cruz, a career Giant, could take less money with the Giants to stay, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Giants were open to that as well at a much lower number.
If Cruz does hit the free agency market, Cheap nfl Jerseys however, would the Eagles take a look?
Cruz finished this season with just 39 catches for 586 yards and one touchdown, numbers that when combined with his injury history and age (30-years old) will likely lead to their not being many teams interested in bringing him in.
The rumors that the Eagles were interested in Jackson have been spreading like wildfire over the past month.
For the Eagles, there are arguments both for and against signing Cruz.
On one hand, Cruz doesn’t make much sense for the Eagles. At 30-years old, Cruz is not in his prime and has yet to show he can be the same player he was before he tore his patellar tendon. Top personnel executive Howie Roseman said earlier this week at a press conference he wants to target young players in free agency, allowing those players to grow with 24-year old quarterback Carson Wentz.
Cruz doesn’t fit that mold, as he isn’t an impact player now, and he likely won’t be in two or three seasons when the Eagles are really ready to compete.
On the other hand, however, the Eagles might need to face some realities that lead them to Cruz.
The Eagles don’t have a ton of cap space, with just $3.5 million currently free. That number will increase once they release players, but releasing those players will only create holes that need to be filled.
How close are the Eagles?
Cruz is not a player to build around, but he could be a cheap bandaid for the Eagles next season, something Roseman also admitted the team might need next year. The difference between signing a player like Cruz, and a player like DeSean Jackson, is Cruz will cost a fraction of what it will take to land Jackson. Neither makes sense because of their age, but the Eagles realistically need bodies at the position next year, as really only Jordan Matthews can be counted on next season.
In an ideal world, the Eagles will be Cheap jersey wholesale able to add an impact player through the draft. Even after doing that, however, they will still need to fill out the rest of the roster.
Adding a veteran like Cruz, who would also bring some off-the-field leadership, could be a route the Eagles go — if he is released by the Giants.
