After three games, the Detroit Lions have one of the best offenses in the NFL.

They rank fourth in yards per game (413.7), third Detroit Lions Jerseys in passing yards per game (312.7) and are tied for fifth point points (81). Heck, even their running game, which was the worst in the NFL last season, is a respectable 16th at 101 yards per game.

Matthew Stafford has obviously been a big part of that.

The eighth-year quarterback on is on track for his best season ever while ranking among the NFL’s top 10 in virtually every major category.

Stafford is third in passing yards (985), tied for third in touchdown passes (7), sixth in completion percentage (67.5) and has been picked off just two times.

Over the course of a full season, he’s on pace to set career highs passing yards (5,253) as well as fewest interceptions (10). The 67.5 percent completion rate would also be a career high.

But one thing Stafford would like to Customized Jerseys see the Lions get better at is producing more big plays. And that doesn’t mean throwing the ball down the field at every opportunity.

There are few better statistical indicators of wins and losses than turnovers.

“Big plays in this league come in all sorts of fashions, whether it’s throwing a screen to a guy and having it blocked up and him making a run after the catch,” Stafford said. “All sorts of stuff. Doesn’t always have to be the ball thrown over the defense to be an explosive play.

“We’ve got to find ways to just get these guys as open as possible and let them go do their thing.”

The Lions’ offensive scheme under Jim Bob Cooter, who was promoted to offensive coordinator at midseason last year, calls for Stafford to use more of his offensive weapons rather than relying on one player – Calvin Johnson (now retired) – for those big plays.

“There’s probably less of the ‘Hold it as long as you can, throw it 60 yards’ kind of plays,” Stafford said. “But we’re still trying to test the defense vertically in a number of different ways.”

Nine players have caught passes in the cheap jersey wholesale first three games led by Marvin Jones (18), Theo Riddick (16), Eric Ebron (14), Golden Tate (13) and Anquan Boldin (11).

But only Jones, who leads the NFL with 408 receiving yards, has caught a pass for a gain of 30 yards or more. He had a 73-yard reception in last week’s loss to the Packers.

Jones has helped fill a void caused by Calvin Johnson’s retirement.

The Lions’ longest running play of the season was a 28-yard gain by rookie Dwayne Washington against Tennessee.

“We’re always trying to get everybody involved no matter who it is,” Stafford said. “It’s one the bad things but good things about this offense. We have a lot of guys who are talented once they get the ball in their hands.

“So we’re trying to find ways to get everybody the ball in positions to succeed as much as we possibly can. Certain weeks guys are going to have big weeks and other guys aren’t and vice versa.

“We’re just trying to win ballgames. That’s our biggest focus.”
